What's a Glovebox Glove?

A glovebox (or glove box) is a sealed container that is designed to allow one to manipulate objects where a separate atmosphere is desired. They are commonly used as a barrier to protect workers from hazardous materials such as raGlovebox gloves being used inside a gloveboxdioactive materials, toxic gases or infectious disease agents from dermal absorption, inhalation or cross-contamination. Glovebox gloves will also protect against chemicals and materials that may be sensitive to air or water vapor.

What's a Glovebox?

Built into the sides of the glovebox are ports or openings where gloves are arranged in such a way that the user can slide their hands into the gloves and perform tasks inside the box without breaking containment. Part or all of the box is usually transparent to allow the user to see what is being manipulated.
The glove box is often utilized in biotechnology, biomedical, nuclear, military defense, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, chemical manufacturing, microbiological research, high-risk biological agents or to handle infectious pathogens.

What are Glovebox Gloves?

University, private research labs, bio-teams to pharmaceutical manufacturers have some type of need for glovebox gloves. These shoulder length gloves are made to protect against the harshest chemicals and dangerous pathogens.

The glovebox typically is equipped with arm-length protective gloves, which are connected to the unit via glove ports. Gloves can be fabricated from a variety of materials, including neoprene, hypalon and butyl rubber. The glove selection process should be based on risk assessment and the needs for your specific application. Considerations include permeability, dexterity requirements and the types of procedures being conducted.
