EMERGENCY SPILL KITS

Compliant Spill Response Made Easy

In today’s fast-paced world, emergencies can happen anywhere at any time and no matter how much we try and avoid them accidents can happen in any business or facility. While some workplace spills might be easy to sanitize, other substances could haWorker mopping up a spillrm humans or the environment. This is where spill preparedness can save lives and prevent injury or illness in the workplace.

Even in the absence of dangerous chemicals, safety managers still need to factor in the likelihood of a workplace injury resulting in blood or bodily fluid spill.

An important component of spill preparedness is implementing a spill kit appropriate for the solutions or fluids to which your workforce could be exposed.

Regulatory Requirements

While spill kits aren’t mandated by law, they can be an effective solution to meet regulatory requirements to contain, clean up, or dispose of hazardous substances. They also provide quick access to easily identifiable emergency response supplies critical for containment and/or personal safety. Lastly, spill kits can be placed near where a spill or accident is likely to occur saving precious seconds when it’s needed the most.

Every day workers across the United States come in contact with hazardous fluid spills and can be in immediate danger without the proper protection. Gone are the days of the metal bucket and mop, now personal protection equipment (P.P.E.) and compliant spill cleanup kits are the standard for professionals.

Wondering what counts as acceptable P.P.E. and compliant spill removal supplies?  Below is a brief explanation.

Adequate personal protective equipment can include disposable gloves, protective eye wear, disposable face masks, disposable protective gowns or aprons and antiseptic towelettes. These garments are used to prevent the body from contacting fluids that could pose a health risk to you or others.

Prevent Cross-Contamination & Reduce the Risks of Improper Clean Up

Moving on, spill cleanup kits are essential to ensure that the spill is contained, neutralized, disinfected, and removed safely. These products include a way to absorb the spill, usually a super absorbing polymer such as Safetec’s Red Z or Green-Z designed to quickly absorb spills into a gel like form, making it safe to be scooped and collected. A successfully compliant kit will also contain a product to disinfect the surface after the spill has been safely removed.

Types of Spill Kits

Bloodborne Pathogen Kit

A bloodborne pathogen kit guards against occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens from body fluid spills and cleanup. These kits provide a streamlined and cost-effective approach and contain the proper needed supplies to protect workers from potentially infected bodily fluids.

Safetec’s Universal Precaution Compliance Kits are economical alternatives for addressing blood and body fluid spills. Universal Precaution Kits reduce the guesswork and are available in a +plastic hard case or +poly bag designed to help meet the OSHA Compliance 1910.1030 Bloodborne Pathogens Standard by combining personal protection and clean up items mandated by OSHA, CDC, and State Health Departments. Portable, fast and effective, they reduce the guesswork, exposure and cross-contamination of potential infectious agents.

For workers that don’t require full face or body protection economical alternatives such as Safetec’s National Standard EZ-Cleans® Kit is available in a +plastic hard case, +metal case and +poly bag.  The EZ-Cleans Plus® Kit is available in a +poly bag, +plastic hard case or +metal case and includes an array of essential components that make cleanup easy, safe, efficient.  Safetec’s +EZ-Personal Protection Kit  provides complete hi-risk exposure protection from potentially infectious blood or bodily fluids.

Formaldehyde Spill Kits are available in a +plastic hard case or +poly bag and feature FSC-1 to aid in reducing exposure to formaldehyde gas in the event of a spill. The formalin is transformed into an easily removable semi-solid mass, and the resulting mass cools rapidly, minimizing formaldehyde off-gassing.

It features the Safetec® Green-Z® solidifier to solidify and contain hazardous chemical spills for quick and easy cleanup and disposal with minimal exposure.
