SHOWA® SUSTAINABLE ACCELERATOR-FREE NITRILE GLOVES FOR SENSITIVE-SKIN WEARERS
Glove Technology Reduces Exposure To Chemical Allergens For Sensitive-Skin Users & Feature Accelerated Biodegradation in Landfill!
Versatile and affordable, single-use nitrile gloves are commonly worn by professionals in healthcare, research, EMS, manufacturing, food processing, laboratory and dental medicine for its’ protective barrier properties. Single-use gloves are essential to protecting the hands from contamination or infection and can help keep environments and materials cleaner as they minimize the spread of germs and bacteria and potential cross-contamination.
Unfortunately, the glove designed to protect a wearer’s hands can inadvertently cause harm to the skin and lead to allergic contact dermatitis (a type IV allergy). This phenomenon occurs when a substance triggers an immune response in the wearer’s skin and appears as a red rash with bumps and sometimes blisters.
THE PHENOMENON
If an individual wearing a nitrile glove develops dry, itchy or irritated skin, they may believe they have a nitrile allergy but in most cases this reaction is not to the nitrile but rather to the sulfur-based chemical accelerators commonly incorporated in the manufacturing of single-use latex-free gloves.
Depending on the manufacturer, they might use between 1-6 different accelerators in the production. Accelerators are used to speed up production by making each step of the processing phase more efficient and accelerants are sometimes left on the glove.
Chemical accelerators such as dithiocarbamates, thiurams and mercaptobenzothiazoles (MBT) are used in glove manufacturing to speed up the linkage of molecules in natural rubber latex or in synthetic rubber latex like nitrile and vinyl. These accelerants transform liquid materials into thin, strong, and elastic glove films that ultimately facilitate the formation of the glove’s final form, making it less expensive, faster, and much easier to produce.
WHAT IS AN ACCELERATOR-FREE NITRILE GLOVE?
Accelerator-free nitrile gloves are nitrile gloves that have no chemical accelerants used in the production process and they are gaining widespread popularity among users for their dermatologic features. Accelerator-free gloves are made using the same raw material as regular nitrile gloves but with a slightly different formula without the accelerator, thus they are better for the users and the environment. These types of gloves feel softer, more flexible and provide the same strength, elasticity, and chemical resistance as regular nitrile gloves, but the absence of accelerators makes production more difficult and slower and consequently more expensive.
Designed for individuals who suffer from sensitive skin, Showa® offers glove wearers with a portfolio of skin-friendly accelerator-free nitrile gloves that carry a FDA-approved Low Dermatitis Potential Claim and are in compliance with FDA 21CFR, parts 170-199 for safe food handling.

Manufactured using a breakthrough cross-linking technology that does not require sulfur-based accelerators, these gloves also undergo additional testing to ensure that they are free of chemical accelerator residue and will not cause skin irritation, allergies, or damage the environment. The patented low-modulus formula provides second-skin technology that gently snugs the hand to maximize comfort, fit and minimize hand fatigue over long periods of time.
SUSTAINABILITY
As an added bonus, SHOWA® accelerator-free gloves are engineered with revolutionary Eco Best Technology® (EBT) accelerated biodegradation in biologically active landfills. Boasting 82% biodegradation in only 386 days, SHOWA EBT Nitrile Gloves are GreenCircle® certified per ASTM D5526 standard. In fact, these SHOWA® sustainable gloves can be disposed directly with food scraps
Healthy skin is an important barrier as cracked skin or open sores put individuals at higher risk of infections and disease. Chronic skin problems can be painful, distracting and cause people to eventually abandon careers. Reduce environmental impact, landfill waste and exposure to chemicals and consider switching to an accelerator-free glove today. Get the protection you expect from nitrile but without the allergens.
