Disposable Filtration Masks | Respirators 101

It is known that masks  (referring to medical or surgical masks, N-95 and similar respirators) help prevent contamination of the surrounding area. They're effective as a “source control" because they can prevent larger expelled droplets generated from coughs, sneezes, speech, heavy breathing from evaporating into smaller droplets that can travel farther.

But not all masks are created equal. Scientific data shows there are performance aspects that can mean the difference between staying healthy or becoming sick.

Disposable masks vary in protection levels, styles, color, patterns, fit, comfort, purpose and price. The best mask is one you can wear comfortably and consistently. N95 respirators are only necessary in hi-risk medical situations whereas surgical masks are generally more protective than cloth masks, and some people find them lighter and more comfortable to wear. The bottom line is any mask that covers the nose and mouth will be of benefit.

Are you buying and using the correct facemask for the procedures performed daily?  Here is some information to help you decide.
